In the blue waters of Indonesia, a legion of empowered local women, known as Coral Catch Superwomen, are actively restoring Indonesia’s most prized coral reefs.

Coral Catch is an NGO providing nine-week scholarships to Indonesian women who are inspired to participate in ocean conservation through education, empowerment, and environmental stewardship initiatives. Their mission is founded in reef restoration to catalyze positive change within communities while fostering a sustainable future for generations to come. The Ripples of Change

The island nation of Indonesia, located within the Coral Triangle, boasts one of the planet's most diverse and biologically complex marine ecosystems, hosting 18 percent of the world’s coral reefs, harboring over 70 genera and 500 species of coral. However, biodiversity is under the increasing threat of pollution, overfishing, and the impacts of climate change. Through conservation projects, corals are able to flourish and biodiversity thrives, providing a lifeline for countless species that are on the brink of extinction. Healthy coral reefs also serve as natural barriers, protecting coastal communities from the ravages of climate change-induced storms and rising sea levels. Therefore by safeguarding these ecosystems, Coral Catch not only preserves biodiversity but also secures the livelihoods of millions who depend on them for food and income.

Restoring Reefs, Empowering Women

Through innovative techniques like coral farming and gardening, these Superwomen nurture fragile ecosystems back to health. The scholarship program provides comprehensive training in a wide range of research methods, empowering the women with the skills needed to set up and monitor their own restoration projects in the future. This holistic approach not only equips community-members with the tools to make a direct impact but also fosters independence and leadership in their conservation efforts, breaking gender barriers and fostering a culture of inclusivity and empowerment.

Strength in Unity: the Empowered Network

During the scholarship, the trainees are provided mentorship by passionate and influential women from all around the world, all making a significant impact in the field of conservation, entrepreneurship and emotional well-being. These mentors bring a unique set of expertise and experiences to the table, empowering these Indonesian Superwomen to navigate challenges and seize opportunities in their conservation journey. One of these inspiring ambassadors is Ally Dragozet, Founder and CEO of Sea Going Green, who has provided guidance and support to enhance the impact of this initiative. The sisterhood that is at the heart of Coral Catch, transcends boundaries, cultures, and backgrounds, standing as a symbol of solidarity in joint efforts that safeguard our oceans. After completing the program, many of the Superwomen return to their communities, however, this doesn't mark the end of their journey. Despite geographical dispersion, they maintain strong connections, continuously exchanging knowledge, insights, and opportunities.

Community Engagement and Education

Coral Catch recognizes that change starts at the grassroots level. Therefore, Coral Catch Superwomen lead a variety of community initiatives, such as providing free swimming lessons to local women from the island to empower them to overcome their fear of the ocean. Educational efforts include visits to local schools to educate and inspire the next generation of ocean advocates, instilling a sense of responsibility towards nature so that they become agents of change. By breaking down barriers and creating a deeper connection with the marine environment, Coral Catch paves the way for sustainable and exponential change.

Taking Action Against Climate Change

Coral Catch's initiative has trained 20 women through their scholarship program, with plans to empower 12 more this year and 100 by 2030. What sets this project apart is the vital support it receives from companies worldwide. By collaborating with Coral Catch, supporting businesses become integral partners in this transformative journey, increasing impact and initiating a sustainable future for marine ecosystems globally. Joining forces with Coral Catch not only drives positive change but also offers companies the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

In sum, Coral Catch's holistic approach to marine conservation exemplifies the transformative power of women and community engagement. By restoring reefs and encouraging environmental stewardship, Coral Catch paves the way towards a more sustainable future for Indonesia and beyond.
