Islands

Islands are particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change and marine plastic pollution: impacts which jeopardize the continuity of their economic, social, and cultural well-being. Given the intrinsic link between tourism and the natural environment, stressors such as pollution, over-tourism, erosion, and biodiversity loss pose significant threats to tourism competitiveness, livelihoods and environmental health.

With distinct sustainability challenges that are shaped by geographical location, resource accessibility, and tourism dependence, islands and Small Island Developing States (SIDS), require solutions that are guided by experts familiar with these island-specific challenges. Our team understands the constraints as well as opportunities that islands face, which enables us to support efforts to enhance sustainable development, capacity building and resilience.
